Visualization Exercise: Flame Meditation

Hey Soul Fam!

With all the shifts currently happening within the cosmos, and all the shifts happening here as well I thought that this would be the perfect time to post up one of my favorite meditative practices. This exercise doesn’t just help you develop psychic abilities and clairvoyance though, as it also helps with focus. Try this exercise on a daily basis for the best of results, and as with all new meditative exercises, pace yourself and be patient with your progress. Also, don’t forget to journal about your experience after.

FOUNDATIONAL VISUALIZATION EXERCISES

Flame meditations are an excellent way to help you when you are a beginner trying to visualize something in your minds’ eye for the first time. Many beginners have trouble with being able to visualize and think they are doing it wrong. This exercise in particular helps a great deal when practicing focus, visualizing, learning how to do fixed gazing, in training the 3rd eye, and your psychic ability. Try to incorporate this practice into your daily meditation exercises when you can. The more you do this exercise, the easier it will become. With DAILY practice, most beginners are able to steady the “flame” in a week or less. I will say though that like all meditative exercises, the more energy you put in, the more you will get out of it. Be patient with your progress and make this into a game.

FLAME MEDITATION BEGINNERS:

  1. Light a candle and stare at the flame for approximately 2-3 minutes. Make sure your attention does not wander. Just stare at the flame of the candle and lock your gaze onto it. Relax, empty your thoughts and tune into your breathing for a few minutes, concentrating only on each breath like you would do during your yogic breath exercise while you stare at the flame.
  2. After about 3 minutes, close your eyes, place your hands in a relaxed cupped position, with the palms over your eyes, and concentrate on the imprint of the flame in the darkness that you will see. The image will tend to move across your area of vision- it will either move from side to side or up to down. Keep looking for it, bringing it back to the center. Keep concentrating on the light you see and every time it moves keep trying to bring it back to the center.

Do this exercise until the flame fades out of view and all you see darkness.

NOTE: The name of the game here is- steady the fucking flame (or in many cases a random shape, as many of us don’t actually see a flame but instead a shape of color). That is the only objective. While the flame, circle, or colors you see will want to keep moving, your only job is to “will” it to the center. What does this exercise help you with? This exercise in particular helps a great deal with building your ability to focus and concentrate, much like the foundational power breathing exercise. This skill is very important to any psychic/astral workings you will be doing going forward. With the average normal person, thoughts are scattered and dissipate into nothing. With a trained mind that can concentrate intensely, one's thoughts are focused like a laser, and have far more power. Total concentration makes all the difference in more advanced power meditations, manifesting, or energy working of any kind. Your will power is also developed with this exercise, as a powerful will does not give into distraction. Over time and with practice of your foundational breathing, and the flame meditation, you will find that your ability to focus and concentrate will sharpen. Do NOT become frustrated or impatient with yourself. It is normal for thoughts to creep in to distract you in the beginning. Total concentration takes time and for most people, this is honestly one of the most difficult aspects of training the mind. The brain is a muscle that needs to be trained like any other muscle in your body. The more you practice, the better you become, and eventually muscle memory sets in and you will no longer have to try as hard to focus and steadying the flame will become automatic. Once you can steady the flame immediately, you will be ready to move onto the next exercise.

FLAME MEDITATION INTERMEDIATE:

When you have mastered the beginner’s flame meditation, you can try this exercise.

  1. Light a candle and focus on the flame for several minutes, like you would in the beginner’s exercise. Remember, to just stare and focus on the flame.
  2. Close your eyes and place your hands in a relaxed cupped position, palms over your eyes and concentrate on the imprint of the flame in the darkness. The image will be still and centered the moment that you close your eyes. (If it’s moving, you are NOT ready for this exercise.)
  3. Keeping your eyes closed, bring the flame closer. Move it back and forth. You can also practice making the flame bigger then smaller. When you are proficient at moving and controlling the flame, try to enter the imprint of the flame in your minds’ eye. You will find the imprint begins to compact and change color.
  4. Repeat the exercise if you wish.

NOTES: What does this exercise help you with? This exercise trains the mind and third eye to direct psychic energy, which is extremely beneficial going forward when you are doing more advanced power meditations, such as with chakra work and clairvoyance development.
