Moon Rituals
Hey Soul Family,
We’re getting ready for eclipse season, and it is important to know what moon phases are and what kind of energies are coming in with moon phases. The moon is a symbol of our collective emotional energies. Knowing what moon cycles mean and how they energetically affect us collectively is important to understand. The more you understand, the more you will be able to navigate these moon phases and the emotions that may come up with them. To get an even more in depth meaning of a moon phase, you should also look at the sign it is in and the degree of that sign. The degree of a sign is even more important when it comes to getting an accurate description of that energy. My favorite book for degree is called Inside Degrees by Ellias Lonsdale. We’re going to go over moon phases and moon rituals for the full moon and new moon phases.
MOON PHASES
The eight phases of the Moon in order are:
- New Moon: no moon is visible in the sky, also known as the dark moon
- Waxing Crescent Moon: the moon is growing
- First Quarter Moon: the moon has grown to the 1st quarter
- Waxing Gibbous Moon: moon has grown more than semi-circle
- Full Moon: the moon is a full, bright circle
- Waning Gibbous Moon: gets smaller but still bigger than semi-circle
- Last Quarter Moon: grown smaller to the last quarter
- Waning Crescent Moon: grows smaller to a crescent moon
How does this correspond when doing magick?
New Moon: dark workings and curse (especially on the night before the new moon, known as the dark moon), new beginnings in ANY way, health, beauty, banishment, money, soul searching, divination, and rejuvenation.
Waxing Moon: during these 2 weeks the moon is growing bigger, and this is the perfect time to do work for things that you would like to grow, attract, come towards you, or draw to you.
Full Moon: love, charging, healing, clarity, banishment, cleansing.
Waning Moon: during these 2 weeks the moon is growing smaller, and this is the perfect time to do work for things that you would like to detach from, move away from, banish out of your life, or get rid of.
The day of the week can also be important to some of you when tapping into the lunar energies. You can also correspond work that you do with the day of the week. Look over the days and the most common works done then.
DAYS OF THE WEEK
- Sunday: (the Sun) success and prosperity work
- Monday: (the Moon) psychic development and fertility
- Tuesday: (Mars + Pluto) transformation, protection, vitality, destruction, and war
- Wednesday: (Mercury + Uranus) change, career, work, and communication
- Thursday: (Jupiter) luck, expansion, abundance
- Friday: (Venus + Neptune) love, creativity, mystic connections
- Saturday: (Saturn + Pluto) protection, grounding, transformation, and war
